How to get to Brno

By plane

The Brno International Airport is located 7.5 km southeast of the city center. The airport terminal is approximately 2 km from the D1 highway, near Exit 201 Brno-Slatina. Paid parking (10 minute drop-off is free) is available in front of the terminal and is also suitable for long term parking. The express city bus line number 76 stops at the terminal and travels to one of the main bus stations at the Grand Hotel in the city centre with a total journey time of approximately 20 minutes. Taxis are also available to in front of the terminal. Several low-cost airlines operate flights from the airport – Ryanair, Wizz Air and BMI Regional. Ryanair connects Brno to London (Standstead) daily. Wizz Air competes on this route and flies to London Luton airport. In addition, flights are available to Eindhoven, where it is possible to connect to other destinations for a low cost. BMI Regional offers a new direct connection to Munich Airport.

Alternatively, flight to Vaclav Havel International Airport in Prague or Vienna International Airport is available. This is a main international airport in the Czech Republic and Austria respectively, where all European airlines have their flight routes.

By car

Brno can be easily reached from all major cities in the Czech Republic (including Prague, Olomouc, Ostrava) through a large network of highways and motorways. Prague to Brno distance: 208 km, time: 2 h 07 min.

Plan your route online with TomTom.

For travel on highways in the Czech Republic, a vignette sticker is necessary. Sections, where the motorway vignette is required, are marked with a typical “highway” or “motorway” traffic sign. Motorways and highways that are free of charge are marked by a traffic sign “free of charge” (a picture of a crossed-out vignette) together with the standard highway/motorway traffic sign. Vignettes can be purchased at all Czech Post branches, fuel stations, border crossings and other places providing services for motorists.

Parking in the city of Brno is possible only in designated areas and is mostly paid. In the outer areas of the city there are larger parking lots. There are also several underground and above-ground garages available.

By bus

Excellent bus connections between Brno and the rest of Europe is provided by several bus operators. Brno is also the starting point and final destination of many national bus lines. The Zvonařka central bus terminal is operated by Tourbus and provides international and domestic transportation. Another important bus station is the Brno Grand station located on Benešová street (by Grand Hotel Brno). This station is used by many long distance domestic operators (such as Student Agency) and a number of international operators as well (Student Agency, Tourbus, Eurolines).

The South Moravian region also offers a sophisticated Integrated Public Transport System of the South Moravian Region (IDS JMK – public city transportation, buses and trains).

By train

Brno is also an important railway junction. The main railway station is located directly in the city center and transportation is provided by České dráhy (Czech Railways).
Comfortable transport by rail in the Czech Republic and abroad is provided by several above-standard trains (category RJ, EC, IC) and standard quality trains also (category Sp, Os, R, Ex). Tickets for main train connections can be purchased on-line.

We recommend to pre-book your taxi service online. This is the best way of knowing ahead what is the cost of the service. The taxi service is generally cheap and all taxis should issue a receipt of the overall cost.
