Extracellular vesicles are membrane-enclosed nanoparticles that function as signalling entities between cells. Besides many other interesting research streams, our institute currently homes into these tiny particles that evolved into a hot topic in medical research. Extracellular vesicles are of particular interest as they may serve as early diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers as well as treatment targets in various diseases. Our institute intensively researches their role in vascular medicine and cancer. In a recent review, we highlight the current state of research in vascular bed-specific extracellular vesicles.
Vetmeduni has now launched a fundraiser to support this new research stream, as laboratory work is expensive. The donations are used directly for laboratory materials, special computer programs, and laboratory equipment.
