Congresses and General Assemblies since 1964

In the beginning, the meetings of the EAVA took place every year, sometimes on the occasion of other congresses when the present members organized extraordinary general assemblies. Since 1980, the meetings have been held every two years and the young generation organise a metting inbetween.

1964

I CONGRESS (Foundation Assembly) in VIENNA, 6 April.

1965

II CONGRESS in GIESSEN, 4-7 August.


This assembly took place together with a meeting of WAVA. It was attended by 58 members from 12 European and 5 extra-European countries who adopted the statutes that were laid down in Vienna.

1966

III CONGRESS in BERN, 31 March – 2 April.

1967

IV CONGRESS in ALFORT, 17-22 July in scope of the World Congress of Veterinarians in Paris.

1968

V CONGRESS in BELGRADE, 9-11 September

1969

VI CONGRESS in PARMA, 8-10 September.

The general assembly decided that the EAVA should join the WAVA as a collective member and pay the corporative fees for 1965-1969. The EAVA agreed to pay 10 per cent of its subscription incomings to the WAVA.


1970

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY in LENINGRAD on the occasion of the World Congress of the WAVA in August.

1971

VII CONGRESS in BOLOGNA, l3-15 September.

1972

VIII CONGRESS in VIENNA, 7-9 August.

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY in MANCHESTER on the occasion of the 3rd European Veterinary Congress in September.

1974

IX CONGRESS in TOULOUSE, 9-11 September.


Officers of the WAVA atteded to the general assembly. It was decided to select the Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin, Reihe C, as the official journal of the WAVA. In support of this journal, annual membership fee of the EAVA was raised to 15 SFr.

1975

X CONGRESS in BUDAPEST, 4-6 September.


The general assembly decided that henceforth the congresses were to be spread over 3 to 4 days. Scientific contributions – independent of their number – should be held only in the mornings, while afternoons should be used for meetings and excursions during which the members may enhance mutual contacts. Furthermore, all scientific contributions should be published as an abstract in the Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin, Reihe C.


Professor C. BRESSOU (Alfort), Professor H. GRAU (Munich), Professor A. SCHUMMER (Giessen) and Professor V. SIMIC (Belgrade) were elected as honorary members.


1976

XI CONGRESS in MADRID, 1-4 September.



The general assembly accepted Spanish as the fourth official language of the association.

1977

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY in BASEL on the occasion of the 4th European Congress of Anatomists, 30 August – 2 September.


1978

XII CONGRESS in St. VINCENTE (Valley of Aosta), 5-8 September. 


Professor V. SIMIC (Belgrade) put forth his intention to establish a research funds for junior anatomists.

1979

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY in PRAGUE on the occasion of the 5th European Congress of Anatomists, 10-14 September. 


MEETING of other EAVA members in MOSCOW on the occasion of the 21st World Congress of Veterinarians, 1-7 July.

1980

XIII CONGRESS in LIVERPOOL, 2-5 September.


The use of poster demonstrations during the congresses of the EAVA was discussed and recommended. Professor C. PAVAUX (Toulouse) submitted a report about veterinary morphologic education.

1982

XIV CONGRESS in WEST-BERLIN, 30 August – 2 September.

Foundation of the Simic-Grau Award of the EAVA and the Prize of the Veterinary Anatomists of Berlin. A work meeting of the International Committee on Veterinary Gross Anatomical Nomenclature (Subcommittee on Angiologia) took place in the margin of this congress.

1984

XV CONGRESS in UTRECHT, 26-30 August.

First Simic-Grau Research Award granted to a junior anatomist.

1986

XVI CONGRESS in BUDAPEST, 24-29 August.

On the occasion of the bicentennial anniversary of Veterinary Education in Hungary, the Hungarian Veterinary Anatomists donated a Congress Bell to the EAVA. The Prize of the Veterinary Anatomists of Berlin was awarded for the first time to the best poster demonstration. Professor R. BARONE (Lyon) and Professor F. PREUSS (St. Peter Ording) were elected as honorary members.

1988

XVII CONGRESS in REGENSBURG, 28 August – 2 September. 


Secretary-General Professor R. SCHWARZ (Hannover) presented an information brochure about the history, statutes and activities of the EAVA. Professor N.R. DE VOS (Ghent) was elected as honorary member.


1990

XVIII CONGRESS in LEIPZIG, 21 – 25 August.

Articles 6, 9 and 12 of the statutes of the EAVA were amended.

1992

IX CONGRESS in GHENT and ANTWERP, 24 – 28 August. 


In conjunction with this congress, a General Assembly of the WAVA and Work Meetings of the International Committees on Veterinary Gross Anatomical, Histological and Embryological Nomenclature took place.

1994

XX CONGRESS in ZURICH, 15 – 19 August.

A General Assembly of the WAVA and a Symposium on South American Camelidae were organized in the frame of this congress. On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary and the twentieth congress of the Association, Professor K.-H. HABERMEHL (Gießen), Professor A. KING (Liverpool), Professor W. MOSIMANN (Bern), Professor C. PAVAUX (Toulouse) and Professor O. SCHALLER (Vienna) were elected as Honorary Members of the EAVA.

1996

XXI CONGRESS in LUGO, 15 – 20 July.

Secretary General Prof. P. SIMOENS presented a Vademecum containing the history, statutes, awards, activities, and addresses of the members of the EAVA. Article 4 and Article 6 of the Statutes of the EAVA were changed by adding the title of a “Senior Member”.


1998

XXII CONGRESS in NAPLES, 26 – 30 July.

Professor R. BORTOLAMI (Bologna), Professor B. VOLLMERHAUS (Munich), Professor R. SCHAWARZ (Hannover) and Professor J. FREWEIN (Zurich) were elected as Honorary Members of the EAVA.

2000

XXIII CONGRESS in OLSZTYN, 16 – 19 July.

Professor J. FREWEIN (Zurich) was elected as Senior Member of the EAVA.


2002

XXIV CONGRESS in BRNO, 21 – 25 July.

Article 9 and Article 13 of the Statutes of the EAVA were changed: The Executive Commitee was expanded by a representative of the younger members of the Association and English is the lingua franca of the EAVA. 


Professor H. LAUWERS (Gent) and Professor G. MICHEL (Leipzig) were elected as Honorary Member of the EAVA. Professor B. SCHNORR (Giessen) was elected as Senior Member of the EAVA.

2004

XXV CONGRESS in SUNDVOLDEN/OSLO, 28 – 31 July.

A proposal for an “European Degree of a Veterinary Anatomist” was presented by Professor P. SIMOENS.

2006

XXVI CONGRESS in MESSINA/ITALY 28 – 31 July.

The assembly approved in principle of the Constitution and Bylaws of a “European College of Veterinary Anatomy (ECVA)”, and agreed in principle about the statues of the Founding Members, De facto Members, Honory Members, and Diplomates.

2008

XXVII CONGRESS in BUDAPEST/HUNGARY 23 – 26 July.

The General Assembly approved the followings: The Executive Board to be expanded by a web-master and be approved by a new election procedure for Board members; the minutes from now on only to appear in English. New Honorary Members of EAVA: Professor K.-D. BUDRAS (Berlin), Professor A. CECIO (Naples), Professor G. FEHER (Budapest), Professor H. GEYER (Zurich), Professoer H. WAIBL (Hannover).


2010

XXVIII CONGRESS in PARIS/FRANCE 28 – 31 July.

Prof. Salazar was elected as new President of the EAVA and Dr. Wolschrijn was elected as Vice President of the EAVA .

2012

XXIX CONGRESS in STARA ZAGORA 26 – 28 July.

Prof. Abbate (Messina) was elected as new President of the EAVA. Dr. Michal Kyllar was elected as new Secretary General and Prof. Alois Bois was elected as new Treasurer of the EAVA. Art. 7 of the Statutes (election of the representative of the YGVA) was changed.

2014

XXX CONGRESS in CLUJ NAPOCA 23 – 26 July.

Professor H.E. KOENIG (Vienna), Professor R. LEISER (Giessen), Professor H.R. AUGSBURGER (Zurich), Professor V. DANTZER (Copenhagen), Professor G.M. CONSTANTINESCU (Columbia) and Professor F. SINOWATZ (Munich) were elected as Honorary Member of the EAVA.

2016

XXXI CONGRESS in Vienna 27 – 31 July.

Prof. Dr. Paul Simoens (Ghent) Prof. Dr. Szymon Godynicky (Poznan) were elected as Honorary Member of the EAVA. Dr. Claudia Wolschrijn (Utrecht) was elected president replacing Prof. Francesco Abbate (Messina). Prof. Christianne Pfarrer (Hannover) was elected new vice-president. Prof. Alois Boos (treasurer, Zurich) and Dr. Michal Kyllar (secretary general, Brno) were re-elected in their positions.

2018

XXXII CONGRESS in Hannover 25 – 28 July.

Professor Christoph Mülling (Leipzig) was elected as a new treasurer replacing Prof.Alois Boos (Zurich). Article 4d. was added to the Statues. See congress photo.
